Beautiful 17th-century copper engraving, engraved by Wouter Kip, depicting the volcanic island of Ternate in the North Moluccas with various ships in the foreground. Buildings line the beach. Thick, dark clouds of smoke emerge from the volcano (Gunung Gamalama).

Copper engraving, published in Amsterdam in 1676 by Jacob Meurs in "Oost-Indische Voyagie: Containing important incidents and bloody sea and land battles against the Portuguese and Makassares (...)", Wouter Schouten.

Very good condition. Sharp, dark print. Very beautifully hand-coloured. Some light age browning/staining. Central fold, as published.
