Greenland, Iceland, Canada, ´Friesland´, J.N. Bellin, 1770, Carte du Groenland par Laurent

€79.00
Item number: 26 16 AV

A map of Greenland, reproduced by Bellin from Laurent, based primarily on Dutch discoveries (hence the many Dutch place names).

Iceland is somewhat distorted and positioned very close to Greenland. On the left, a small part of America is just visible, with the Davis Straits and Baffin Island.

Below Iceland lies a small stretch of coastline indicating that the mythical island of Frieslant (Frislande) should be located there.

In the middle on top a title cartouche. One of the maps produced by J.N. Bellin for Prevost d'Exiles influential travel book, L'Histoire Generale des Voyages, dated 1770.

Excellent condition, central fold as published.
