Beautiful, large 18th-century copper engraving depicting a view of the volcanic island of Ternate in the North Moluccas, with several ships in the foreground. Buildings line the beach. Lava and a thick cloud of smoke rise from the volcano (Gunung Gamalama). Index in French and Dutch at the bottom.

Published in 1761 by De Hondt in The Hague in the scarcer international edition, with text in Dutch and French, in "Suite du Histoire générale des voyages".
Very good condition. Very detailed and clear print. Folds as issued. Ample margins. Hand colored. Reverse side blank.
