Rare 18th century large copper engraving showing a religious ceremony in a temple dedicated to the Buddha. Shakyamuni (Shakyamuni, here spelled as Siksja or Sekia) is one of the names that is used for the Buddha.
Original source: from the drawings of the Dutch adventurer Johannes (Jan) Nieuhoff. Source: Nieuhof, Gezantschap (Van Meurs 1665). Title in English, Dutch and French.
This edition comes from P. van der Aa´s ´La galerie agreable du monde...´, published in Leiden (Netherlands) in 1728. It is said only 100 copies of this monumental work have been printed.
