17th-century copper engraving depicting the conquest of the island of Gran Canaria and the city of Allagona (an incorrect name for the city of Las Palmas) by the Dutch fleet under Admiral Pieter van der Does, June 26, 1599. In the foreground is the Dutch fleet; the Spanish are firing on the Dutch ships from coastal forts. On the right is the fortress of Graciosa.
