Beautiful town plan of the Japanese city of Nagasaki, with the artificial island of Decima (or Deshima) that served as only point of contact between Japan and the rest of the world for around 200 years. It was a tradepost for the Dutch East Indies Company (VOC). The Dutch were not allowed to leave the island outside of a yearly visit to the Emperor.

It is produced by J.N. Bellin and engraved by the famous Jacob Van der Schley for Prevost d'Exiles´ influential travel book, L'Histoire Generale des Voyages, Paris,


Very good condition. Clean, strong paper, with watermark and with ample margins. Folds as published. Reverse side blank.
