Turkey, Izmir, very large panorama by C. de Bruyn, 1698, Smyrna
Large (103,5cm wide) 17th century copper engraved panoramic view of Smyrna, modern day Izmir in Turkey. This incredible panoramic view gives a spectacular image of one of the important cities in the Ottoman Empire.
The engraving, printed from two copper plates that later were joined, was made by C. de Bruyn for his book ´Reizen van Cornelis de Bruyn door de vermaardste deelen van Klein Asia…´, 1698, Delft (Netherlands).
In this book he describes in great detail a voyage of several years through the Ottoman Empire, mainly through modern day Turkey, Egypt, Cyprus, Israel and Lebanon.
Very good condition, some light creases and some minor repairs, not affecting the image. Some very light age browning and some small stains. Thick paper with clear print. Ample margins.
