A very large and rarely offered copper engraving (47x55,5cm), featuring a spectacularly detailed city map of Middelburg, with all the buildings depicted in detail. At the top are the coats of arms of Zeeland and Middelburg, and two lists with an index of the most important buildings, supported by putti. Perhaps the best and most detailed map of Middelburg from the Golden Age.

Published in the "Nieuwe Cronyk Van Zeeland,..." by Matthaeus Smallegange (*1624; †1710), edited by Johannes Mertens, Middelburg, 1696.

Good condition. Beautiful copy. Wide margins. Several repairs/reinforcements on the back in the folds with limited impact on the image (see photos). Folds as published.
